Suzanne Bennett Displays Her Work at the Captiva Civic Center
Congratulations are in order for Hirdie Girdie artist Suzanne Bennett. Two of Suzanne’s paintings were juried into the Captiva Civic Centers Annual Juried Exhibition 2023-2024 “In the Sea”.
The paintings are “Peaceful Path” and “3 Swimmers”.
For this show, Sanibel-Captiva Art League (SCAL) asked participants to use the e.e. cummings poem, “maggie and milly and molly and may” as the inspiration for their work.
maggie and milly and molly and may
maggie and milly and molly and may
went down to the beach(to play one day)
and maggie discovered a shell that sang so sweetly
she couldn’t remember her troubles,and
milly befriended a stranded star
whose rays five languid fingers were;
and molly was chased by a horrible thing
which raced sideways while blowing bubbles:and
may came home with a smooth round stone
as small as a world and as large as alone.
For whatever we lose(like a you or a me) it’s always ourselves we find in the sea
e.e. cummings (1956)
The exhibit will be open from March 21 – April 19, 2024 The Captiva Civic Association is located at: 11550 Chapin Lane, Captiva, FL 33924. For hours and information:
