Kay Stammers Wins a Blue Ribbon at the Florida Southwest Carving Expo
Kay Stammers Wins a Blue Ribbon at the 2022 Florida Winter National Wood Art Expo & Competition

The Florida Winter National Wood Art Expo & Competition was held January 7 – 8, 2022.
This annual event was held at the Charlotte Harbor Event and Conference Center in Punta Gorda, Florida. This Expo has been one of the premier wood art shows in the country since 1986. A dynamic show with hundreds of entries for competition, vendors of all kinds (wood, tools, blanks, dust equipment, art supplies and more), demonstrations, raffle, artists’ displays and sales.
We are proud to announce that Hirdie Girdie Gallery Artist Kay Stammers won first place for the category of birds at the intermediate skill level out of hundreds of entries.
As all of the judges are skilled masters, this award had a special significance among wood carvers.
A long process.

Kay’s sculpture entitled “Downy Woodpecker” is meticulously carved out of Tupelo wood. Her process begins by cutting the shape with a band saw, then carving the sculpture with wood tools. Kay then does the hand detailing with knives, hand tools, and burning equipment. She follows this by sealing the wood, then painting it with acrylic paints.
Kay Stammers is a member of the Caloosa Carvers of Fort Myers, located at 8290 Cypress Lake Drive, Fort Myers, FL
Fort Myers, FL, 33919.
