January 2024 Art Reception – Guest Artist Jannine Primus

Each month the Hirdie Girdie Gallery features a guest artist. In January 2024, the Hirdie Girdie Gallery is excited to welcome as our Guest Artist, Jannine Primus!

You are invited to meet Jannine at our reception being held Thursday, January 11th, 2024 from 4-6pm.

Musician Bob Housler  will be performing, and we will be offering light refreshments.

We will have other artists from our gallery in attendance as well. In addition, our next door neighbor, Tower Gallery, will be having their reception too. Why not visit us both?

About Jannine Primus:

Jannine Primus grew up in Minnesota where she received a BS in Speech Pathology at UMN, did graduate work in Audiology at UMN, leading to several years practicing Clinical Audiology (CCC/ASHA) in Minnesota and Illinois.

During corporate moves throughout the US with her husband she began to paint, then to exhibit, then to teach painting and design.

She considers herself primarily self-taught, while also seeking talented workshop artists who contributed much to her artistic growth. Recognition of her artwork grew over time—juried shows, awards, major art fairs, galleries.

Jannine creates watercolor, acrylic and mixed media paintings as well as collage and assemblage art. She has exhibited and taught in the Minneapolis and Pittsburgh areas–and recently Florida. Her work has received many awards, been juried into numerous national, regional and local shows and is included in corporate, public and private collections nationwide.

Driven by the wish to wear her watercolors, she explored surface design and wearable art and joined a co-op gallery of local designers. Four years with the gallery unearthed and entrepreneurial urge.

Voila! Whymsy in the Galleria!!! Her own boutique for which she created a limited line of unique clothing as well as offering work by other designers. During this time, with the generous help of her family, she volunteered as a licensed Wildlife Rehabilitator, raised and released four dozen orphaned raccoons and a few hands full of squirrels.

She and her daughter/partner sold Whymsy. She then studied children’s picture book writing and illustrating at UMN and others. For a few years she worked on several illustrated manuscripts only to be interrupted by Covid-19.

Her diverse interests and community involvement are apparent by her inclusion on statewide executive boards for the following: Minnesota Council for Gifted and Talented Education (MCGT); Fashion Group International (FGI) MN chapter; Wildlife Rehabilitation and Release (WRR) of Minnesota.

ARTIST STATEMENT: Post Covid I am happily painting again and getting back into the “art scene”. I view my creations as a means of personal expression through the manipulation of color, texture and value as I create a cohesive composition. Subject matter has been secondary to me, resulting in vague landscapes and non-specific florals. I withhold a detailed definition of the subject in each painting while encouraging the viewer to participate in the creative process and allowing each painting to be perceived differently by different people.

I do not paint things—I paint moods and illusions.
More of my work can be seem at the COCO galleries: COCO Estero and COCO Naples
